Newton Bennett, the author of The Root, has been a minister for more than thirty years. He has carried the gospel to numerous cities across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. He formerly served as pastor of two assemblies, one in St. Augustine, Florida, the other in Show Low, Arizona. He and his wife of more than thirty-five years live in Tucson, Arizona where he pastors a small congregation. They have three children, one who has gone on to be with The Lord, and three grandchildren.
"Several years before the book was completed in 2014, the Lord put a subject on my heart to minister to our local church. That subject turned into a twelve-part series dealing with the poison acid that is bitterness and offense. The resulting comments and the lives that were changed from those in attendance brought to the forefront the hold that bitterness has on people's lives, more significant than I had known.
As time continued, I felt God was leading me to write a book about bitterness following the series I had ministered. However, I'm not very articulate and have never considered myself a writer and neglected this leading.
At the time, my pastor, the late Pearry Green, was a tremendous help and encouragement to me to write this book. After each segment I ministered, and many times after, he would comment on what a blessing it was to so many.
Years following the bitterness series, I met many people suffering from divided friendships, shattered homes, and broken churches because of bitterness and offense. As I met more and more people trapped by bitterness and offense, I found myself not having the time to address this subject in-depth. I began wishing I had something I could hand them, like a book, that could help. The resulting product of these situations and the leadership of God is this book.
By the Grace of God and through the Holy Spirit, I desire this book to bring peace and healing to your life and relationships. I pray that the same Holy Spirit that inspired me to write this book will inspire you as you read it." - Newton Bennett
